The Greater Manchester 2 Piece and Team Championships
The Greater Manchester 2 piece and Teams Birchwood, Warrington.
Sunday 31st May saw the Under 12 and Under 14 boys teams travel to Warrington for the North West Regional Team Championships. Unfortunately during the week, the Senior team had to withdraw due to injury.
The under 12 team have won this team title for the last two years, however 3 of the original team have moved to the under 14 age group which left a very young and inexperienced team, apart from the experienced Team captain Alex Gagon. The younger boys had all been training very hard and were hoping to be in with a chance of a medal no matter what colour! However the whole team, Ryan Dempsey, Alex Brierley, Josh Harrison and Ted Gagon along with their captain Alex were fantastic and produced some great routines, with the less experienced keeping their nerve to be triumphant and win the team title for the 3rd year running. Well done boys, it was a brilliant achievement.
The Under 14 team was full of experience with seasoned Gymnasts Henry Faulkner, Marvin Coleman, Robert Reddington and Jack Tupman. We hadn't won this title for a few years as we haven't had a full team at this age group, so all eyes were on the team to put on a gold medal winning performance and the boys didn't disappoint. After some great routines the boys held the trophy aloft and claimed the title.
On Saturday 30th May the younger boys from our Junior, Primary and Preparation Groups travelled to Warrington to compete in the Greater Manchester 2 Piece Competition.
We started with Level 1 in the morning and saw Tyler Shepherd and Harrison Jacques swoop in to take the medals. Tyler won 2 silver and 2 bronze while Harrison took 3 gold medals crowning him overall Greater Manchester Champion.
Level 2 saw Levi Gifford compete and boy did he sweep the competition to one side. A gold on floor and vault gave him overall first place and the title of Greater Manchester Champion.
In the Level 3 we had Isaac Ul-Haq, Mikey Winnard, Kyle Holes, Christopher Summers and Enrico Robinson competing. Kyle unfortunately didn't medal but Mikey took silver on floor, Christopher took Gold on Vault, Enrico Bronze overall with Isaac winning 1 Gold and 1 Silver taking overall gold and the title Greater Manchester Champion.
Level 4 was split into two sections, Under 9 and 10 and over. We had boys in both sections. In the Under 9's we had Sam Bennett who just missed out on a medal, Frazer McDonald who took Bronze on floor, Anthony Harding taking silver on vault, Harrison Armstong, Silver on floor, Bronze on vault and bronze overall, Bradley Nuttall gold on floor and silver overall and Jon McKenna, bronze on floor, gold on vault and gold overall making him Greater Manchester Champion.
The under 10 section saw Mathew Bowles take bronze on vault, Robert Pack, bronze on floor, Tom Sullivan Gold on floor, silver on Vault and silver overall and Jerrell Machin, silver on floor, gold on vault and gold overall, making, you guessed it another Greater Manchester Champion.
What a great day!
So with the weekends results in we had won 15 gold, 10 silver and 7 bronze medals. Out of 7 titles up for grabs we won all 7, this included 2 team titles and 5 individual Greater Manchester Champions.
