New Class Blocks.
New block of classes
Week beginning 15th March.
Because of increases in the running costs of the facility and also a decrease in funding from the Council services we need to increase our class fees. Hopefully you will see this as a small increase and still consider the classes excellent value for a fully coached session in a fantastic facility. The increase is only 50p per session but this will enable us to still offer a great programme of gymnastics.
For the next 8 week block please remember that we are closed on Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday i.e. 22nd, 23rd and 24th March and therefore if you have classes on these days you will only pay for a 7 week block. CITY OF MANCHESTER INSTITUTE OF GYMNASTICS
‘GYMNASTICS...A HEALTHY, SKILFULL AND DISCIPLINED LIFESTYLE’
AN INSIGHT INTO OUR PROGRAMME FOR CHILDREN ‘FROM BRONZE TO GOLD’
BRONZE...FOUNDATION LEVEL
Children are introduced to gymnastics at our Bronze Level and will receive 1 hour of high activity tuition per week. We have a special teaching gym for this level which welcomes the child into a secure and safe gymnastics environment where parents are encouraged to stay and watch. Perhaps some skills could be practiced safely at home to speed up progress…best to ask first. The Bronze Level is based around BGA badges 7, 6 and 5 and develops the basic gymnastics shapes, balance and good posture. An introduction to correct rolls, jumps and landings performed with a high degree of good coordination makes a fantastic starter pack for the young gymnast.
To progress to the Silver Level gymnasts should at least have passed badge 5 and then the coach will advise both gymnast and parent of the next step.
SILVER LEVEL
This is our new exciting level hoping to bridge the gap between our already existing levels. We felt the children here needed a little extra time to develop their more difficult skills at this stage. One and a half hours gives the gymnast extra practice time and also “moves them into the large gym”with more space. The Silver Level encompasses badges 4, 3 and 2. When a gymnast finally achieves their badge 2 they are eligible for their Gold Medal. This will be presented in the gymnastic ceremonious fashion from now on and a list of Gold Achievers will be on our honours board.
Silver Level gymnasts will be taught support balances, flexibility, handstands, vaulting, cartwheeling and backward rolls to advanced levels.
To progress to the Gold level they should have achieved their gold medal and be comfortable with all the relevant skills. Once again the coach will advise you of the next step.
GOLD LEVEL...HIGHER LEVEL
Gold level gymnasts will train for 2 hours per week and pursue the BGA proficiency award. These awards are a higher level again to the awards at Bronze and Silver Level. A greater accent is placed on their own physical performance including strength, flexibility and muscular endurance. This will help the gymnast to achieve even more progress towards advancing their vocabulary of skills. They will be challenged in rebound skills (trampoline and trampette) and aerial awareness, acrobatic tumbling skills, vaulting and some apparatus routines.
BGA proficiency awards include skills such as rolling through handstands, walkovers, handsprings, round off back flips, balances, combined tumbling and aerial movements (somersaults). Vaulting is included and also an introduction to some apparatus.
Through the whole program coaches will be scrutinising the classes looking for the very talented young children who may be able to continue into competition gymnasts. Ultimately the Coaching Director, Mr Colin Leigh will advise on this situation.
